LOGAN, Utah -
Utah State’s Jalen Davis will travel to New Haven, Conn., on Thursday, Jan. 11, to take part in the Walter Camp Football Foundation All-American festivities during the weekend. The senior was named to the 127th Walter Camp All-America team in December, earning first-team honors.
The newest All-American team will be honored at a black-tie dinner at Yale Commons on Saturday, Jan. 13.
Along with earning first-team All-America honors from Walter Camp, Davis was also named a second-team All-America by both the Associated Press and the Football Writers Association of America in 2017, in addition to earning first-team all-Mountain West accolades. In all, Davis is just the ninth football player in school history to be named a first-team All-American.
Davis concluded his Utah State career with a school-record 37 pass breakups and 48 passes defended, as his 11 career interceptions rank tied for fourth all-time at Utah State and his 227 career interception return yards rank second all-time. During his USU career, Davis started all 49 games he played in, which ranks as the second-most starts in school history. Overall, Davis recorded 180 tackles, which included 8.0 sacks and 17.0 tackles for loss, while adding four forced fumbles during his Aggie career.
For the 50th year, the nonprofit Walter Camp Football Foundation — run by about 100 volunteer members — will honor its newest Walter Camp All-American Team and host community events that draw thousands of attendees.
The foundation and All-American team are named for Walter Camp, dubbed "the father of American football." Camp, who played and coached football at Yale University, is credited with instituting rule changes that resulted in what we think of as American football.
At the Walter Camp All-American Experience on Friday, Jan. 15, which is open to the public, attendees will have an opportunity to meet and get autographs from top college players and Walter Camp alumni; and players and alumni visit patients at several hospitals.
In all, the weekend’s events will include VIP receptions, hospital visits, formal photo sessions and the annual black tie awards dinner held at Yale Commons.
