LOGAN, Utah - Utah State head football coach Gary Andersen will conduct his first official practice as Aggie head coach on Tuesday, March 17 when USU takes to the turf of Romney Stadium to open spring drills.

Andersen will lead the Aggies through 15 practices, which will all be held at Romney Stadium, unless bad weather forces them inside the Laub Indoor Practice Facility. Utah State will practice on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for the next five weeks starting Tuesday through the Spring Game on Saturday, April 18 at 2 p.m.

"The biggest thing initially, and the main goal for the whole team is we need to have 15 consecutive practices," Andersen said. "We're throwing a lot of offense, a lot of defense and a lot of special teams to them very early."

Andersen and his coaching staff will get their first look at the Aggies in action, taking over the helm of the USU program in December. He will have approximately 85-90 players in action when drills start.

"Our belief is to force feed them and then start to back off and polish as we go. So those are the few key things initially we have got to be able to do," Andersen said. "But we've got to look at the whole thing in general terms because the scheme, really, that we're running on the offensive side and on the defensive side is a fairly major departure from what they've done in the past, especially on the defensive side. So there's going to be a lot of learning."

Utah State has 22 starters returning (10 offense, eight defense and four special teams) as part of 47 returning lettermen from last season's 3-9 team. Last season was the first time since 2005 that the Aggies had three wins in a season and USU's 3-5 Western Athletic Conference record was their most wins in the four seasons that USU has been in the league. It was also the first time since 2003 that USU has won three conference games and just the third time in the 2000's (2000: 4-1 Big West; 2003: 3-4 Big West; 2008: 3-5 WAC).
