Utah State Football Will End Third Week of Spring Practice With Situational Scrimmage Thursday Afternoon
April 3, 2013
LOGAN, Utah - Halfway through spring camp, Utah State football will end its third-week of spring drills with a roughly 50-play scrimmage during the final 40 minutes of its ninth practice on Thursday, April 4 at Merlin Olsen Field at Romney Stadium. Practice is set to start at 3:15 p.m., with the scrimmage scheduled to begin around 4:20 p.m.
All USU spring football practices are open to the public.
During Thursday's practice and scrimmage, first-year head coach Matt Wells will continue to evaluate the backup offensive linemen and running backs, as well as the backup linebackers. Wells also wants to see more communication in the secondary.
During the scrimmage, both the No. 1 and No. 2 offenses will get the ball at its own 30 and 40-yard line with a six-play minimum scenario against the No. 1 and No. 2 defenses. USU will also run both groups through a pair of red zone periods from the 12 and 25-yard line, along with a pair of two-minute drills. The No. 3 offense and defense will also get 10-12 plays of live action during the scrimmage.
Utah State will continue its spring schedule next week, practicing on Monday and Wednesday from 6:15 to 8:15 a.m. and on Thursday from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. All practices are scheduled for Merlin Olsen Field at Romney Stadium unless inclement weather pushes them to the Stan Laub Indoor Football Complex. All practice times and locations are subject to change.
Utah State will conclude spring drills on Saturday, April 20 at 2 p.m. with its annual Blue vs. White Spring Game, presented by Orbit Irrigation Products. Admission to the spring game is free.
