Utah State Football Ladies Clinic A Flying Success
June 11, 2009
LOGAN, Utah - Utah State football conducted its annual Ladies Clinic Thursday night, and the event was a huge success, drawing its largest turnout ever with 127 participants. The clinic, sponsored by America First Credit Union, was designed to teach participants football skills, techniques and the ins-and-outs of the game. Participants also had the opportunity to meet the new Aggie football coaching staff, along with selected players. "This is the best thing ever," said Carrie Milligan, USU Admissions Office Program Coordinator. "My favorite part was the quarterback station. Coach Andersen and his staff are the best thing that's happened to Utah State in a long time." The clinic opened with registration on the first floor of the Jim and Carol Laub Athletics-Academics Complex before moving up to the second floor to the Randy and Becky Spetman Auditorium for an introduction by head coach Gary Andersen, as well as a brief question and answer period. Action then shifted to the Stan Laub Indoor Practice Facility, where participants went through eight stations: tackling, blocking, rushing, passing, receiving, defensive backs, plyometrics, along with putting on pads, jersey and helmet. "I learned a lot about all the different positions and how they're played," said Gina Christensen, whose favorite part was the tackling. "It was neat to learn about all the different players and what they do." "My reason for coming tonight was that my little boy is seven-years-old, and he's starting to play football," Christensen said. "Tonight I learned how to help him put on his pads and jersey, as well as what position I think he'd be best at."
The clinic was free to participate, but donations were accepted to benefit the Logan Community Abuse Prevention Services Agency (CAPSA) chapter. "This was a lot of fun; we had a great turnout," Andersen said. "I think that our kids had a lot of fun doing it, as well as our coaches, and I believe the ladies did too. This is something that we're going to do every year, and I think the numbers will grow next year. This is a great way to have our kids reach out to the community." Andersen and Utah State open the 2009 season against Utah on Thursday, Sept. 3. After a bye and a road game at Texas A&M on Saturday, Sept. 19, USU hosts in-state foe Southern Utah in the Aggies' home opener on Saturday, Sept. 26. Utah State football season ticket renewal applications are currently available online at www.utahstateaggies.com. General Admission season tickets are also available for purchase. Orders for both West and East side reserved seats are also being taken with payment, though seat locations will not be available until after June 1.
