Utah State Football Supplemental Game Day Notes at Fresno State
Oct. 14, 2011
LOGAN, Utah - ON THE AIR -- Beginning this fall, in addition to KVNU 610 AM in Logan, all Utah State football games are carried live on KZNS 97.5 FM (Salt Lake City), KZNU 1450 AM (St. George), KVEL 920 AM (Vernal), KRPX 95.3 FM (Price) and KCPX 1490 AM (Moab)... The Aggie Sports Network will also carry the one-hour pregame and postgame shows for every Aggie football in addition to the 50-minute weekly coaches shows... All Aggie football games are also on the Internet at www.UtahStateAggies.com by clicking on "Listen Live"... Legendary radio voice Al Lewis will handle the play-by-play duties, while former Aggie SID Craig Hislop provides analysis. GAMETRACKER -- Fans can follow all USU Aggie home games, as well as Saturday's game, through the USU web site at www.UtahStateAggies.com via GameTracker, a free service, which updates play-by-play and statistics throughout the game. `NET WATCHING -- Friday's game between the Aggies and Bulldogs will also be streamed on the Internet through WatchESPN.com (formerly known as ESPN3. com). 113 / 119 -- USU is taking the field for the 113th season of football in 119 years. The Aggies beat Utah, 12-0, in 1892, but then did not field a team until 1896, when they again only played one game but then played every year since with the exceptions of 1918 when to World War I and influenza cancelled the season and 1943 due to World War II. A USU WIN WOULD...
A USU LOSS WOULD...
WE'RE GOING STREAKING -- Several Utah State players and the Aggie team take streaks into Saturday's game:
ITS RAINING CATS AND DOGS -- Saturday's match up against the Bulldogs of Fresno State is the Aggies' fourth match-up against a dog or a cat in their six games, facing three feline foes in its first four games... USU faced the Tigers of Auburn on Sept. 3, the Wildcats of Weber State on Sept. 10 and the Cougars of BYU on Sept. 28. BACK-TO-BACK BULLDOGS -- USU's game against Fresno State is the first of back-to-back against Bulldogs, as the southern variety from Louisiana Tech visit Merlin Olsen Field at Romney Stadium next Saturday, Sept. 22. TIME TRAVELERS -- Saturday is the Aggies' first trip to the Pacific Time Zone this season, the first of two trips, returning at Idaho on Nov. 19... USU plays two road games in the Mountain Time Zone (at BYU on Sept. 30 and at New Mexico State on Dec. 3) and the Hawaii-Aleutian Time Zone (at Hawai'i on Nov. 5) after opening the season in the Central Time Zone at Auburn on Sept. 3. TRIPPIN' -- Saturday's game at Fresno State is USU's fourth-shortest of the season for the optimists or third-longest trip of the season for the pessimists: Auburn - Sept. 3 1,862 miles BYU - Sept. 28 127 miles Fresno State - Oct. 15 858 miles Hawai'i - Nov. 5 3,015 miles Idaho - Nov. 19 430 miles New Mexico State - Dec. 3 712 miles COACH DADS -- Utah State head coach Gary Andersen and Fresno State head coach Pat Hill play double duty, as they both have sons on their respective squads who also both wear double number jersey numbers, as Andersen's son Keegan is a redshirt-freshman tight end for the Aggies, wearing #22, while Hill's son Zak is a senior defensive back for the Bulldogs, wearing #33. BIG CATCH -- Utah State is one of 17 teams in the country with at least five players with a minimum of five catches and average at least 10.6 yards per catch. New Mexico State 8 Arizona State 7 Louisville 7 Alabama 6 Central Michigan 6 Florida State 6 West Virginia 6 Tennessee 6 Florida 6 UTAH STATE 5 Arizona 5 Stanford 5 Washington State 5 Georgia 5 Arkansas 5 Arkansas State 5 Idaho 5PINNING PUNTERS -- Both Utah State and Fresno State have punters who are good at pinning, not in the wrestling sense, but pinning the opposition inside the 20-yard line, as Bulldogs' punter Andrew Shapiro is tied for sixth in the country with 13 punts inside the 20 while Aggies' punter Tyler Bennet is tied for 17th in the nation with 10 punts... Nearly half of Bennett's punts (10-of-21, .476) have been inside the 20, while Shapiro has just over a third of his punts inside the 20 (13-of-35, .371).
