LOGAN, Utah -- - Utah State football player Aaron Jones was voted USU's athlete of the week by the local media panel, it was announced today.

Jones, a senior from Casa Grande, Ariz., helped lead Utah State to a 31-14 thumping over Big West rival Idaho this past Saturday at Romney Stadium. The 5-foot-11 Jones hauled in eight receptions for a career-best 233 yards, and one touchdown against the Vandals. The 233 yards is the third most in USU history (just 10 shy of the record). In the game, Jones averaged 29.1 yards per catch and it was the third time this year he has gone over the 100-yard plateau (seventh of his career).

Jones and the rest of his Aggie teammates will be gunning for their third straight Big West victory Saturday when Utah State will host Arkansas State at 3:05 p.m. This will be the last-ever BWC game in Logan.

OTHER ATHLETE-OF-THE-WEEK NOMINEES:

VOLLEYBALL: CHELSI NEVES/ JUNIOR... led No. 22 Utah State to three more home wins this past week over Idaho State, UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton. Against the Bengals, Neves hit .714 with six kills, two digs, two blocks, two aces and 34 assists. Against the Anteaters, Neves tallied a .769 hitting percentage, to go along with a triple-double (10 kills, 10 digs, 47 assists). Her .769 hitting percentage in the UCI match was a school record for a three-game match. Neves closed out the week by posting a .533 hitting percentage with nine kills, four digs, three blocks and 34 assists against Cal State Fullerton. For the week, the 5-foot-9 Neves hit .657 with 25 kills and only two errors. She also recorded 16 digs and eight blocks. On the year, the Sheridan Junior College transfer leds the Aggies with a .349 hitting percentage and is just two assists shy of becoming only the seventh player in Utah State history to tally 1,000 career assists.

GOLF: KEVIN BLOTTER/ SENIOR... led Utah State to a 16th place finish at the Countrywide Home Loans Intercollegiate this past week in Simi Valley, Calif. Blotter tied for 33rd as he posted scores of 80, 79 and 73 for a 232 total.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: SARAH LOWE/ SOPHOMORE... won the consolation bracket at the University of Utah Invitational this past weekend. Lowe also teamed up with freshman Richelle Ferguson in doubles to advance to the finals in that bracket.
