LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's Kellen Bartlett and Kyler Fackrell both earned national honorable mention honors from College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) following its 48-17 Western Athletic Conference road win against UTSA this past weekend.
It is the first time this year that Bartlett has been honored by CFPA, while Fackrell is being recognized for the second time this season.
Bartlett, a 6-2, 248-pound senior tight end from Blue Springs, Mo. (Blue Springs South HS) earned honorable mention tight end of the week honors from CFPA as he had a five receptions for 39 yards against UTSA, including his second career touchdown reception on a 2-yard pass play on USU's first offensive series of the game.
Ohio State's Jake Stoneburner was named the national performer of the week at tight end by CFPA, while Bartlett joined Justice Cunningham (South Carolina), Gavin Escobar (San Diego State), Jacob Pedersen (Wisconsin), Ernst Brun (Iowa State), Ryan Otten (San Jose State), Eric Ebron (North Carolina), Cody Booth (Temple), D.J. Grant (Texas), Nexon Dorvilus (FAU), Kyle Carter (Penn State), Zach Sudfeld (Nevada) and Chris Gragg (Arkansas) as honorable mention award winners.
On the season, Bartlett ranks tied for second on the team with 31 receptions for 235 yards, which ranks fourth on the team.
Fackrell, a 6-5, 236-pound redshirt freshman linebacker from Mesa, Ariz. (Mesa HS) earned honorable mention linebacker performer of the week honors from CFPA as he had a team-high tying seven tackles (2-solo, 5-assist) against UTSA, to go along with his second career interception that he returned two yards. Fackrell also had one tackle for loss in the game.
Georgia's Jarvis Jones and Arizona's Marquis Flowers were named national co-linebacker performers of the week by CFPA, while Fackrell joined Will Ebner (Missouri), Herman Lathers (Tennessee), Gabe Martin (Bowling Green), Arthur Brown (Kansas State), Dan Molls (Toledo), Manti Te'o (Notre Dame), Ryan Shazier (Ohio State), Keegan Wetzel (Navy), Luke Batton (Kent State), Kevin Reddick (North Carolina), Christian Jones (Florida State), Marvin Burdette (UAB), Albert Rosette (Nevada), Greg Blair (Cincinnati) and Jake Love (Kansas) as honorable mention award winners.
On the season, Fackrell ranks tied for ninth in the WAC in interceptions (0.22) and 12th in the WAC in tackles (6.9 pg). Overall, he is fourth on the team with 62 tackles (18-solo, 44-assist) to go along with 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, two pass breakups, six quarterback hurries, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one blocked kick.
Utah State (7-2, 3-0 WAC) is off to its best start to a season since the 1978 team won seven of its first nine games, while its 3-0 league record is its best since the 2000 team won its first four Big West Conference games. In all, Utah State has won a school-record eight-straight WAC games dating back to last season and is 12-3 in its last 15 games, which is its best stretch since the 1972-73 seasons.
Utah State continues WAC play at home this weekend against Texas State (3-4, 1-1 WAC) on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. The game will be televised regionally by KMYU (Comcast Ch. 22, Dish Network Ch. 12, DirecTV Ch. 12, Over-the-Air 2.2). Overall, USU has won each of its last six home games to rank as its best home winning streak since the 1966-68 teams combined for eight-straight home wins.
