LOGAN, Utah - Utah State football player Chuckie Keeton is out of the hospital and cleared to return to Logan after suffering an injury Saturday night in USU's 35-31 comeback win at Hawai`i.
Keeton, a freshman quarterback from Houston, Texas, was injured late in the second quarter and carted off the field, and taken to The Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu. USU Head Athletic Trainer Dale Mildenberger stayed with Keeton.
According to USU team physician Dr. Trek Lyons, Keeton suffered an extreme stinger to his spine, but Lyons said that Keeton was moving and walking about Sunday, and was cleared to return to Logan. Keeton and Mildenberger will be leaving Honolulu Sunday night.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Chuckie," USU head coach Gary Andersen said. "He is a tough kid, and we're extremely glad he is going to be okay. We can't wait to get him home and back together with our team so we can wrap our arms around him and let him know how much we love him."
