LOGAN, Utah - Utah State football player Adam Kennedy collected a pair of national accolades for his performance in helping USU to a thrilling 24-21 win over New Mexico State on Saturday. The Aggies' junior quarterback was named the College Sports Madness Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while College Football Performance Awards tabbed Kennedy an honorable mention quarterback of the week.
Kennedy, a junior from Elk Grove, Calif. (Franklin HS/San Joaquin Delta College) was 12-of-16 passing for 123 yards with career-high three TD's, and added a career-best 95 yards rushing on 15 carries, in leading USU to another nail-biting victory with a 24-21 thriller at New Mexico State on Saturday. Kennedy nearly matched his rushing total of the season entering Saturday, as he had 133 yards rushing in his previous action. Three of his rushes came on USU's game-winning drive, including a 2-yard run on a 4th-and-1 from the NMSU 14-yard line on an option play that he made the first down by inches to keep the drive and USU's chances for a win alive. Two plays later, he hit junior wide receiver Matt Austin for the second time on the day with an 8-yard TD toss with 35 seconds left for the game-winning score. Kennedy's three TD passes marks his fourth multi-TD passing outing in the last five games.
On the season, Kennedy is now 65-of-92 (.707) for 909 yards with 10 TD's and four INT's, with a QB efficiency rating of 180.82.
