Utah State Football Player Jake Doughty Named America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week
Utah State senior linebacker Jake Doughty has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Dec. 8 it was announced Monday, in an award that is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State senior linebacker Jake Doughty has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Dec. 8 it was announced Monday, in an award that is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

Overall, it is the second time this year and in his career that Doughty has been named USU's student-athlete of the week.

Doughty, a 6-0, 234-pounder from Draper, Utah (Juan Diego HS) recorded a game-high 10 tackles, including 0.5 for loss, in Utah State's 24-17 defeat at No. 24 Fresno State in the inaugural Mountain West Football Championship game last weekend. Doughty also recovered his first fumble of the season and second of his career late in the first half and returned it 86 yards for USU's first score of the game.

On the season, Doughty leads the team with 140 tackles to rank tied for the seventh-most in a single-season in school history. He also ranks third in the Mountain West and ninth in the nation with his 10.8 tackles per game. Doughty also has 2.0 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery this year that he returned 86 yards for a touchdown, to go along with four quarterback hurries and three pass breakups.

Utah State (8-5, 7-1 MW) will conclude its 2013 season in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl against No. 24 Northern Illinois (12-1, 8-0) on Thursday, Dec. 26 at 7:30 p.m. (MT). The game will be televised nationally on ESPN. USU is 1-0 all-time against the Huskies.

MEN'S BASKETBALL - Sophomore guard Marcel Davis (American Fork, Utah) scored a season-high 13 points in Utah State's 78-68 home loss to Pacific last weekend. Davis came off the bench to make 3-of-4 field goals, including a season-high 2-of-2 three-pointers, while also making a season-best 5-of-6 at the free throw line. Davis also had four assists and two rebounds in playing a season-high 23 minutes.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - Sophomore guard Makenlee Williams (Syracuse, Utah) scored in double-figures in back-to-back games last weekend as Utah State lost at South Dakota (81-71) and at No. 13 Nebraska (95-75). Against the Coyotes, Williams had her first double-double of the season and the third of her career with 16 points and 11 rebounds as she was 6-of-17 from the field and 2-for-4 from three-point range to go along with one steal and one assist. Against the Cornhuskers, she was the Aggies' leading scorer with 21 points as she was 9-of-21 from the field and 3-of-12 from three-point range. She also had three rebounds, two assists and one steal in the game. For the week, Williams averaged 18.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game, while shooting 39.5 percent from the field (15-38), including 31.3 percent from beyond the arc (5-16) and a perfect 2-2 from the free throw line.
