Utah State's Jake Doughty Named National Defensive Performer of the Week and National Linebacker of the Week by College Football Performance Awards

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State senior linebacker Jake Doughty has been named the National Defensive Player of the Week and the National Linebacker of the Week by College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) following his performance against 24th-ranked Fresno State in the inaugural Mountain West Football Championship Game last weekend.
Overall, it is the second time this year that Doughty has been honored by CFPA as he is sharing both awards this week with Arizona State linebacker Chris Young.
Doughty, a 6-0, 234-pounder from Draper, Utah (Juan Diego HS) recorded a game-high 10 tackles, including 0.5 for loss, in Utah State's 24-17 defeat at No. 24 Fresno State in the inaugural Mountain West Football Championship game last weekend. Doughty also recovered his first fumble of the season and second of his career late in the first half and returned it 86 yards for USU's first score of the game.
On the season, Doughty leads the team with 140 tackles to rank tied for the seventh-most in a single-season in school history. He also ranks third in the Mountain West and ninth in the nation with his 10.8 tackles per game. Doughty also has 2.0 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery this year that he returned 86 yards for a touchdown, to go along with four quarterback hurries and three pass breakups.
Utah State (8-5, 7-1 MW) will conclude its 2013 season in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl against No. 24 Northern Illinois (12-1, 8-0) on Thursday, Dec. 26 at 7:30 p.m. (MT). The game will be televised nationally on ESPN. USU is 1-0 all-time against the Huskies.
