LOGAN, Utah - Utah State football player Kerwynn Williams has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Dec. 16, in an award that is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
It is the second time this year and third time in his career that Williams has received USU student-athlete of the week honors.
Williams, a 5-8, 189-pound senior running back from Las Vegas, Nev. (Valley HS) was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2012 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl as he rushed for a career-high 235 yards and a career-high tying three touchdowns in leading Utah State to a 41-15 win against Toledo. Williams, who carried the ball 18 times in the game, also had two receptions for 34 yards, as he became the Western Athletic Conference's career leader in all-purpose yards.
Williams finishes the 2012 season with 1,512 rushing yards on 218 carries (116.3 ypg) and 15 rushing touchdowns, to go along with 45 receptions for 697 yards (53.6 ypg) and five touchdowns. Overall, he ends the year ranking fourth in school history in rushing yards, third in rushing average (6.9 ypc), tied for third in rushing touchdowns, second in scoring (120), and second in total touchdowns (20) for a single season.
For his career, Williams ranks first in school history and 11th in the nation all-time at the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level in all-purpose yards (6,928). He also ranks seventh in USU history in rushing yards (2,515), seventh in rushing touchdowns (22), fifth in rushing average (6.58 ypc), and tied for seventh in total touchdowns (28).
Utah State (11-2, 6-0 WAC), who is currently ranked 18th nationally by the Associated Press, 20th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll and 22nd in the final Bowl Championship Series (BCS) Standings, concluded its most successful season in school history in 2012 by winning its final seven games, including its second bowl game all-time, and will end the year nationally ranked for the first time since 1961 and for just the second time in school history.

MEN'S BASKETBALL - Freshman guard Marcel Davis (American Fork, Utah) scored 17 points in his first career start in leading Utah State to a 69-63 road win at Utah Valley last weekend. Davis, who played a season-high 28 minutes in the game, added a career-high tying two steals, to go along with one assist and one rebound, while shooting 6-of-10 from the field, 1-of-4 from three-point range and 4-for-5 at the free throw line.
