Utah State Football Adds Three Players to Program

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State head football coach Matt Wells announced Wednesday the signing of Chase Christiansen, Ian Togiai (Tong-e-i) and Siua Taufa (See-u-ah Tau-fah) to compete for the Aggies. All three will enroll at Utah State for the spring semester of 2014 and be eligible to compete during the 2014 season.

Christensen, a 6-2, 210-pound linebacker from Tooele, Utah (Stansbury HS) played in just four games during his senior season due to injury. As a prep junior, Christensen recorded 65 tackles and intercepted one pass. Offensively, he rushed for 953 yards and 19 touchdowns on 116 carries, and was 42-of-87 passing for 647 yards with 11 touchdowns and just two interceptions.

During his prep career, Christensen was a Region 11 and North Region 3AA Most Valuable Player, along with being a two-time first-team all-state selection as he rushed for 2,351 yards (7.08 ypc) with 38 touchdowns to go along with 1,358 passing yards and 16 touchdowns. He also registered 118 career tackles on defense.

Togiai, a 6-2, 220-pound linebacker from West Valley City, Utah (Hunter HS) had five sacks during his senior season in 2012 and carried the ball 17 times for 106 yards. During his prep career, Tagiai had 8.5 total sacks.

Taufa, a 6-2, 265-pound defensive lineman from Concord, Calif. (Ygnacio Valley HS) earned all-Mid-Empire Conference honors as a freshman at Diablo Valley Community College in Pleasant Hill, Calif. as he recorded 62 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble and 11.5 sacks, which ranked second in the conference. Taufa just completed a two-year LDS Church Mission in Nicaragua.

Utah State (8-5, 7-1 MW) will conclude its 2013 season in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl against No. 24 Northern Illinois (12-1, 8-0) on Thursday, Dec. 26 at 7:30 p.m. (MT). The game will be televised nationally on ESPN. USU is 1-0 all-time against the Huskies.
