Utah State Football Player Joey DeMartino Named America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week
Utah State senior running back Joey DeMartino has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Dec. 29 it was announced Monday, in an award that is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State senior running back Joey DeMartino has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Dec. 29 it was announced Monday, in an award that is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

Overall, it is the second time this year and in his career that DeMartino has been named USU's student-athlete of the week.

DeMartino, a 5-11, 200-pounder from San Diego, Calif. (Mt. Carmel HS/Grossmont JC) rushed for 143 yards on 23 carries and scored the eventual game-winning touchdown on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter to lead Utah State to a 21-14 win against No. 24 Northern Illinois in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl last week. DeMartino, who was named the game's Offensive Most Valuable Player, also caught one pass for eight yards in the contest and set a Poinsettia Bowl record with a 58-yard rush in the opening quarter.

Overall, DeMartino recorded his seventh 100-yard rushing game of the season and his career against the Huskies as he was one yard shy of tying his career-high for rushing yards in a game.

DeMartino finished his senior season with 1,221 rushing yards on 221 carries (5.5 ypc) with 13 touchdowns, while catching 13 passes for 125 yards (9.6 ypr) with one touchdown. Overall, his 1,221 rushing yards rank 12th all-time at USU for a single-season, while his 13 rushing touchdowns rank tied for ninth.

For his career, DeMartino carried the ball 250 times for 1,378 yards (5.5 ypc) with 14 touchdowns and caught 15 passes for 139 yards (9.3 ypr) with one touchdown. Overall, DeMartino ranks 16th all-time in school history with his 1,378 rushing yards and eighth with his 5.5 yards per carry average.

Utah State (9-5, 7-1 MW) concluded the 2013 season by winning six of its final seven games and tied the 1960 and 1961 teams for the second-most wins in school history with nine. USU also won back-to-back bowl games for the first time in school history, and has won more bowl games in the past two seasons (2) than it did in its first 114 years of Aggie football (1).

MEN'S BASKETBALL - Sophomore forward Kyle Davis (Draper, Utah) recorded his third double-double of the season with 15 points and a career-high 15 rebounds in helping Utah State to an 84-53 home win against San Diego Christian last weekend. Davis, who also tied his career-high with three blocked shots to go along with two assists and one steal against the Hawks, finished 4-of-7 from the field and 7-of-8 at the free throw line. Overall, Davis has now scored in double-figures six times this season to go along with four double-figure rebounding games.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - Junior guard Elise Nelson (Springfield, Ore.) had her first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 13 rebounds in Utah State's 86-81 home loss to College of Idaho last weekend. Nelson, who added a career-high nine assists and a career-best eight steals against the Lady Yotes, was 4-of-8 from the field and 2-of-3 at the free throw line in the game.
