Utah State's Tanner Higham Finishes Tied For First at Southern Utah Hosted Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational Marking USU's Best Individual Finish Since 1996

Utah State's Tanner Higham finished in a three-way tie for first-place with a 2-under 142 helping the Aggies tie for sixth overall at the Southern Utah hosted Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational held here at the Sunbrook Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.
For Higham, it is the best individual finish by an Aggie golfer since the fall of 1996 when Todd Tanner won medalist honors after carding a 3-over 147 (77-70) at the Stevinson Ranch Invitational in Stanislaus, Calif.
Higham tied Cal Poly's Camden Price and Charleston's Zach Munroe at 2-under par during the 36-hole tournament and the trio continued on in a playoff to determine an individual medalist. All three players shot par on the first three holes, but Higham dropped out after bogeying the par-3 eighth on the Woodbridge nine. Higham remained in the playoff after holing a 50-yard chip to make par on the par-4 seventh hole. Price then shot par on the sixth playoff hole, while Munroe bogeyed to win the playoff.
Utah State shot an 8-over 296 during the final day of competition to finish with an 18-over 594 (298-296) to tie for sixth-place with Seattle in the 14-team field. Cal Poly won the team championship with an 8-over 584 (294-290) after shooting a final round 2-over par.
Higham, a junior from Shelley, Idaho shot a 2-under 70 during his opening round Monday before carding an even par 72 on Tuesday for his best collegiate finish. During the fall season, Higham finished in second-place at the U.S. Air Force hosted Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational as he shot a 6-under 210 (70-70-70).
At the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational, Higham led the field with a score of 3-under on the par-3's.
Freshman Seokwon Jeon (Salt Lake City, Utah) also recorded his best collegiate finish with a 3-over 147 (71-76) to tie for 12th. Junior Zach Waxler (Casper, Wyo.) finished tied for 65th with a 12-over 156 (81-75), freshman Reed Platke (Whitefish, Mont.) tied for 71st with a 13-over 157 (84-73), and senior Kris Sayer (Idaho Falls, Idaho) tied for 81st with a 17-over 161 (76-85).
Utah State also had two players competing as individuals in the tournament as senior Brendan Dennis (Roosevelt, Utah) tied for 29th with a 7-over 151 (74-77) to record his best collegiate finish, and sophomore Ryan Pearson (Pocatello, Idaho) finished in 96th-place with a 41-over 185 (93-92).
Utah State will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 17 when it travels to City of Industry, Calif., to compete in the Cal State Fullerton hosted Folino Invitational which concludes on Tuesday, Feb. 19.
