Aggie Golf In Ninth After First Round Of Big West Championships

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. - Phil Kalivas shot a 77 to lead Utah State's golf team in the first round of the Big West Conference Championships here on Monday morning. The second round of the event was rained out Monday afternoon and the tournament will be shortened to a 36-hole event with the final 18 holes scheduled for Tuesday.

UC Irvine and Cal Poly are tied for the team lead with identical scores of 294. Idaho is third at 299. Utah State shot a 322 and is seven strokes behind eighth place UC Santa Barbara.

Individually, only two players in the field broke par of 72 at the Serrano Country Club as UC Irvine's Mike Lavery fired a two-under par 70 to lead Matt Hansen of Pacific by one shot.

Kalivas, a USU senior, shot 37 on the first nine before following up with a 40 on the back side. His total of 77 ties him for 22nd. Aggie freshmen Cody Huot and Marcus Myers each carded round of 79 in their first career Big West Tournament action. They are tied for 30th.

Kevin Mullen shot an 87, while Chris Combe posted a 92 to round out USU's scoring.
