Utah State Golfer Seokwon Jeon Tied For 23rd-Place Following Opening Round of 2014 Mountain West Men's Golf Championships

Utah State golfer Seokwon Jeon carded a 2-over 73 during his opening round and is currently tied for 23rd-place at the 2014 Mountain West Men's Golf Championship held here at the Catalina Course at Omni Tucson National Resort on Friday.
Utah State shot a 14-over par 298 during its opening round and is currently in 10th-place.
New Mexico has a one-shot lead on the field after the first day of competition with a 5-under 279, followed by UNLV's 4-under 280. San Diego State is in third-place with a 3-under 281, followed by Air Force (287), Wyoming (290), Colorado State (292), San Jose State (292), Boise State (293), Nevada (296), Utah State (298) and Fresno State (307).
UNLV's Carl Jonson carded the best score of the day with a 5-under par 66 to lead San Diego State's Riccardo Michelini by one stroke. In all, 10 players shot under par during the first round.
Jeon began the tournament with a 2-over 37 on his front nine as he had two bogeys, and then carded an even-par 36 on his back nine with two bogeys and two birdies.
Junior Grahm Schmaltz (Kalispell, Mont.) is tied for 31st-place for Utah State after shooting a 3-over 74, while sophomore Reed Platke (Whitefish, Mont.) is tied for 39th-place with a 4-over 75, freshman Braxton Miller is in 48th-place following a 5-over 76, and senior Tanner Higham (Shelley, Idaho) is tied for 51st-place after carding an 11-over 82.
The 54-hole tournament will continue on Saturday with the second round beginning at 7 a.m. (PT). On Saturday, USU golfers will be grouped with players from Fresno State with tee times starting at 7 a.m. (PT). The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday.
