Utah State In Second-Place Following Opening Round of 2013 WAC Golf Championships

Utah State shot a 4-over par 292 during its opening round and is currently in second-place at the 2013 Club Glove Western Athletic Conference men's golf championship held here at the Rio Secco Golf Club Monday.
New Mexico State has a six-shot lead on the field after the first day of competition with a 2-under 286, followed by Utah State's 4-over 292. UTSA is in third-place with a 5-over 293, followed by UT Arlington (294), Idaho (294), San Jose State (296), Seattle (298), Denver (300), Texas State (302) and Louisiana Tech (305).
UTSA's J.J. Lindsey carded the best score of the day with a 2-under par 69 to lead four other players by one stroke. In all, 10 players shot under par during the first round.
Freshman Seokwon Jeon (Salt Lake City, Utah) carded a one-under 71 during his opening round and is currently tied for sixth-place for Utah State, while junior Tanner Higham (Shelley, Idaho) and freshman Reed Platke (Whitefish, Mont.) both shot rounds of 1-over 73 to sit tied for 15th-place. Senior Brendan Dennis (Roosevelt, Utah) opened with a 3-over 75 and is tied for 23rd, while fellow senior Kris Sayer (Idaho Falls, Idaho) sits tied for 42nd with a 7-over 79.
The 54-hole tournament will continue on Tuesday with the second round beginning at 7 a.m. (PT). On Tuesday, USU golfers will be grouped with players from New Mexico State with tee times starting at 9:40 a.m. (PT). The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Wednesday.
