
Utah State Finishes Tied For Eighth At WAC Championships

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Utah State finished tied for eighth-place at the 47th annual Western Athletic Conference Golf Championships held here at the par-72 Cinnabar Hills Golf Club Wednesday. The Aggies tied Hawai'i in the team standings as both clubs finished with scores of 948. New Mexico State won the tournament championship, leading start to finish, as the Southern Aggies posted a team score of 891. Boise State finished second overall (896), followed by Fresno State (908), Idaho (919), Nevada (920), San Jose State (926), Louisiana Tech (931), Utah State (948) and Hawai'i (948). Boise State's Troy Merritt won the individual championship with a seven-under 209, after shooting rounds of 68, 70 and 71. Merritt was the only golfer in the championship to finish under par. Junior Devin Daniels (Hyde Park, Utah) was Utah State's top individual performer as he finished 19th with a 16-over par 232 after shooting an eight-over 80 in the final round. Daniels finished second at the 2007 WAC Championships at seven-under. Senior Jeremy Pack (Salt Lake City, Utah) carded a team-best five-over 77 on Wednesday to finish in 28th-place for Utah State with a 20-over 236, while junior Toph Peterson shot a nine-over 81 in the final round to finish 33rd overall at 25-over (241). Junior Tyler Labrum (Roosevelt, Utah) and freshman Dan Heath (Smithfield, Utah) rounded out the Aggie scoring finishing in 38th and tied for 39th individually with scores of 245 and 246, respectively.
