Utah State's Tanner Higham In Seventh-Place After Second Day At WAC Championship

Sophomore Tanner Higham shot a 5-over par 77 Tuesday and is now in seventh-place with a 1-over 145 (68-77) to lead Utah State at the 2012 Club Glove Western Athletic Conference men's golf championship held here at the Rio Secco Golf Club.
Utah State is currently in seventh-place after the second day of competition with a 31-over 607 (294-313), while San Jose State is in first-place with a 5-over 581 (290-291). Heading into the final round Wednesday, USU is just two shots out of sixth-place and just five strokes out of fifth.
Four-time defending WAC champion New Mexico State is in second-place with a 7-over 583 (293-290), followed by Fresno State who is in third with a 12-over 588 (287-301). Idaho is in fourth with a 14-over 590 (287-303), Hawai'i sits in fifth-place with a 26-over 602 (304-298), Nevada is in sixth-place with a 29-over 605 (301-304), Utah State is in seventh-place, and Louisiana Tech is eighth with a 33-over 609 (304-305).
New Mexico State's Justin Shin carded a 4-under par 68 during his second 18 holes and currently sits in first-place on the leaderboard at 6-under 138 (70-68). On Tuesday, Shin was one of just four golfers to shoot even par or better.
After shooting a 4-under 68 on Monday with five birdies and just one bogey, Higham (Layton, Utah) shot a 6-over 42 on his front nine Tuesday with four bogeys and one double bogey, before carding back-to-back birdies on the back nine to go along with one bogey for his 5-over 77 as he now sits in seventh-place with a 1-over 145.
Freshman Tanner Jenson (Parker, Colo.) had USU's best round of the day with a 2-over 74 and is tied for eighth with a 2-over 146 (72-74). Freshman Brennan Coburn (Layton, Utah) shot a 7-over 79 during his second round Tuesday and is tied for 33rd with a 15-over 159 (80-79) as is fellow freshman Andrew Paulson (Sandy, Utah) who shot a 12-over 84 Tuesday after carding a 3-over 75 during his first 18 holes. Senior Chanse Godderidge (Smithfield, Utah) is also competing for the Aggies and is currently 37th with an 18-over 162 after carding rounds of 79 and 83 on Monday and Tuesday.
The 54-hole tournament will conclude on Wednesday with the third round beginning at 7 a.m. (PT). On Wednesday, USU golfers will be grouped with players from Louisiana Tech.
