Men's Golf Opens Spring Season At Thunderbird Invitational

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's golf team will open its 2006 spring season at the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational hosted by Southern Utah University on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 13 and 14.
The 13-team tournament includes Air Force, Boise State, Denver, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Idaho State, San Francisco, Utah, Utah State, Utah Valley State, Washington State, Weber State, and the host Thunderbirds.
The 36-hole tournament will be played at The Pointe and Black Rock courses at Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George, Utah. The course is 6,758 yards and plays to a par of 72. The teams are scheduled to play 18 holes Monday and 18 holes Tuesday.
In its final tournament of the fall season, Utah State finished in fifth-place at the 14-team Bill Cullum Intercollegiate hosted by Cal State Northridge. Otte paced USU in the competition as he finished in a tie for ninth-place as the senior shot three straight rounds in the 70s.
Ehlers was Utah State's top player in the fall with a 73.58 scoring average, while Otte finished second, just one shot back of Ehlers with an average of 73.66. Black finished fourth on the team in the fall with a 76.08 average, while Blair averaged 77.16. Copier will be playing for just the second time this year as his first action of the season came against Southern Utah in match-play competition in Logan.
