Utah State Golfers Continue Spring Season In Arizona at Wyoming Cowboy Classic

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's golf team continues its spring season this week as it travels to Scottsdale, Ariz., to compete in the 12th annual Wyoming Cowboy Classic on Monday and Tuesday, April 7-8 at the Talking Stick Golf Club, North Course.

The 54-hole tournament will feature 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday with a 7:30 a.m. (PT) shotgun start both days. The course is a par-70 covering 7,133 yards.

Joining Utah State in the 20-team field will be BYU, Colorado, Gonzaga, Idaho, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Old Dominion, Santa Clara, Southern Utah, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, Utah, UTEP, UT Pan American, UTSA, Weber State and host Wyoming.

Scheduled to compete for the Aggies will be senior Tanner Higham, junior Grahm Schmaltz, sophomore Seokwon Jeon, and freshmen Braxton Miller and Eli Rogers.

Jeon leads Utah State with a stroke average of 72.43 over 23 rounds this year, while Higham has a stroke average of 72.74 over 23 rounds as well. Rogers has a stroke average of 75.92 over 12 rounds, Schmaltz has a stroke average of 76.00 over 18 rounds, and Miller has a stroke average of 76.64 over 14 rounds this year.

During its last tournament, Utah State finished in fourth-place out of 15 teams with a 34-over 898 (296-290-312) at the South Dakota State hosted Jackrabbit Invitational held in Primm, Nev. Jeon led USU as he tied for 14th-place with a 5-over par 221 (73-67-81), while Higham tied for 23rd-place with a 9-over 225 (72-75-78), Schmaltz tied for 29th-place with a 10-over 226 (74-74-78), Miller tied for 35th-place with a 12-over 228 (77-74-77) and sophomore Reed Platke tied for 63rd-place with a 21-over 237 (77-81-79).

 

 

On the season, Utah State has now competed in eight tournaments and has recorded seven top-10 finishes, including five top-five places.

At last year's shortened 36-hole Wyoming Cowboy Classic, Utah State finished in 22nd-place out of 24 teams with a 54-over 614 (322-292) over two rounds. Higham was USU's top individual as he shot a final round 2-over 72 to finish tied for 40th-place with a 9-over 149 after carding a 7-over 77 during his opening round, while Jeon tied for 100th with an 18-over 158 (86-72).
