Kalivas and Blotter Leading Aggies At Big West Golf Championships
April 22, 2002 EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. - Phil Kalivas and Nate Blotter shot even par and one-over par rounds respectively for Utah State to open the Big West Golf Championships here on Monday, but struggled in their afternoon rounds. The Aggies are in eighth place heading into Tuesday's final round. Kalivas followed his morning round of 72 with a 77 and is tied for 21st with a 149 total. Blotter, who shot a first-round 73 came back with an 80 in the second round and is tied for 28th at 153. Other Aggies include Kevin Mullen and Chris Combe who are tied for 40th at 159 and Michael Ericson, who is 43rd at 161. UC Irvine leads the nine-team field with a 564 score, 17 shots ahead of second-place Long Beach State at 581. There should be a strong battle for second place as Pacific is third at 582 with UC Santa Barbara and UC Riverside right behind at 583. The Aggies shot a team total of 615 and lead Cal State Northridge by one shot and are just eight shots behind seventh place Idaho. UC Irvine has the top two individuals in the field as Jeff Coburn is seven-under par at 137, while teammate Ryan Armstrong is one shot back at 138. The nine-team tournament is taking place at the Serrano Country Club, which measures 7,005 yards and plays to a par of 72. The 54-hole tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday morning.
