LOGAN, Utah - Utah State golfer Tanner Higham has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, May 5, in an award that is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

It is the third time this year and fourth time in his career that Higham has received USU student-athlete of the week honors.

Higham, a junior from Shelley, Idaho (Shelley HS) finished tied for 11th at the 2013 Western Athletic Conference Championships with a 9-over 225 (73-74-78) last week helping Utah State finish in sixth-place in the 10-team field with a 51-over 915 (292-312-311).

On the season, Higham played 28 rounds and had a team-best scoring average of 73.57. Higham's best individual finish of the year was tying for first at the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational this spring with a 2-under 142 (70-72), marking the first time since 1996 that an Aggie golfer tied for first or won a tournament. He also finished second at the U.S. Air Force hosted Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational last fall as he shot a 6-under 210 (70-70-70) for USU's best individual finish at the time since 1997.

Nominees from other sports for USU Student-Athlete of the Week included:

SOFTBALL - Senior pitcher Shelbi Tyteca (Farmington, Utah) helped Utah State to a 1-2 Western Athletic Conference record last weekend against Texas State as it lost the first two games of the series by scores of 14-0 and 9-8, before winning the finale, 5-2. In game two against the Bobcats, Tyteca recorded her first hit of the season as she went 2-of-3 at the plate with two runs batted in and one run scored in helping the Aggies to an eight-run rally to tie the game before eventually losing by one. In the last game of the series, Tyteca pitched 6.0 innings and allowed just two runs while striking out three batters to record her fourth win of the season.
