Aggie Golfer Tanner Higham Named Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week

LOGAN, Utah - Aggie golfer Tanner Higham has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, May 6, in an award that is voted on by a state-wide media panel. It is the first time in his career that Higham has received USU student-athlete of the week honors. Higham, a sophomore from Shelley, Idaho (Shelley HS) tied for eighth-place with a 5-over par 221 (68-77-76) at the 2012 Club Glove Western Athletic Conference men's golf championship held last week in las Vegas, Nev. That eighth-place finish for Higham is the best by an Aggie golfer since Devin Daniels was the individual runner-up at the 2007 WAC Championships after shooting a 7-under 209 (69-66-74). Utah State finished in eighth-place in the eight-team WAC Championship field this year with a 55-over 876 (294-313-312). Nominees from other sports for USU Student-Athlete of the Week included: SOFTBALL - Senior infielder Lindsey Marquez (Artesia, Calif.) hit .286 (2-7) this past weekend with two runs batted in, one run scored and one home run against No. 12 Hawai'i as Utah State was swept in the three-game series by scores of 9-2, 18-0 (5), and 10-3. In the first game of the series, Marquez hit a pinch-hit two run home run. She also had one hit in four at-bats in the series finale. 2011-12 Utah State Athlete of the Week Winners
