Devin Daniels Sets Course Record At Utah State Amateur
July 10, 2008
LOGAN, Utah - Utah State senior-to-be Devin Daniels set a course record with an eight-under par 64 during the first day of competition at the 110th consecutive Utah State Amateur on Wednesday at Soldier Hollow Golf Course in Midway. In all, 293 golfers are competing in this year's State Am.
Daniels, a native of Hyde Park, birded four of the first six holes he played and eagled two par fives to break the Gold Course record of 66 set just a few minutes earlier by Dixie State's Andrew Barton. Going into Wednesday's opening round, the course record was 67 set two years ago.
Daniels will continue stroke play on Thursday on the easier Silver Course, looking to be one of 31 golfers to advance to match play which begins on Friday.
Four other Aggies competed in the State Am on Wednesday, but Tyler Labrum (Roosevelt, Utah) was the only other USU golfer to finish under par as he shot a two-under 70 on the Gold Course and is tied for 11th. Toph Peterson (Logan, Utah) shot a two-over 74, while Dan Heath (Smithfield, Utah) finished at six-over (78) and Thad Truman (Blackfoot, Idaho) carded an 81.
