Men's Golf Will Participate In Purple & Red Invitational On Monday And Tuesday In Layton

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's men's golf team will participate in its second event of the 2007-08 season when they travel to Layton, Utah this week for the Purple and Red Invitational. The tournament, co-hosted by Weber State University and the University of Utah, will be held at the Valley View Golf Club Sept. 24-25.

The 54-hole tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday with two rounds of continuous play. The final 18 holes will be played Tuesday with tee times from 7:40-9:40 a.m. The Valley View Golf Club is a par-72 course with a total yardage of 7,147.

The 18-team field consists of Binghamton, Boise State, Dixie State, Gonzaga, Hartford, Idaho, Idaho State, Northern Colorado, Portland, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, Southern Utah, Texas-Pan American, Utah, Utah State, Utah Valley, Weber State and Wyoming. Hartford is the defending champion with a team score of 863 last year.

Competing for the Aggies will be juniors Brandon Broadhead (Brigham City, Utah), Devin Daniels (Smithfield, Utah), Tyler Labrum (Roosevelt, Utah) and Alex Putnam (Mesquite, Nev.), along with freshman Toph Peterson (Logan, Utah). Fellow freshman Thad Truman (Meridian, Idaho) will also participate during the tournament as an individual competitior.

Daniels led the Aggies with a nine-over 225 to finish tied for 51st in Utah State's first tournament of the season at the Falcon Invitational hosted by Air Force in early September as USU finished in 18th-place as a team.

Utah State took 14th in the Purple and Red Invitational last season with a team score of 896. Current Aggies who played in last year's tournament include Daniels who tied for 60th (227) and Broadhead who tied for 71st (230).
