LOGAN, Utah -
Utah State's golf team continues its fall schedule this weekend at the Notre Dame-hosted Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be held at Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind.
The tournament, which gets underway on Sunday, Oct. 8, will play at a par-71 over the 7,020-yard layout. Teams will play two rounds on Sunday and the final round will be played on Monday, Oct. 9.
Thirteen teams are scheduled to compete in this weekend's tournament, including Dayton, DePaul, Drake, Fort Wayne, Georgetown, Georgia Southern, Oakland, Toledo, Utah State, Western Illinois, William & Mary, Xavier and host Notre Dame.
Scheduled to compete for the Aggies are senior Braxton Miller (Boise, Idaho), sophomores Andy Hess (Idaho Falls, Idaho), Chase Lansford (Colleyville, Utah) and Brock Stanger (Orem, Utah), and freshman Colton Cordingley (Rexburg, Idaho).
In its last competition, Utah State finished seventh out of 20 teams at the Colorado-hosted Mark Simpson Invitational with a 1-under 863 (289-291-283) as Miller tied for ninth individually with a 6-under 210 (70-69-71), for his second-career top-10 finish and second-best collegiate finish. In fact, his 6-under 210 is tied for his best-ever 54-hole score, while his 6-under par is a collegiate low and just his third-ever under par tournament finish.
At last year’s Notre Dame Invitational, Utah State finished sixth in the 15-team field with a 16-over 856 (283-295-278). Miller tied for sixth place at even-par 210 (70-73-67) for his best-ever collegiate finish and first-ever top-10 placing, while his final round 3-under 67 is his collegiate low round. Lansford also competed in the tournament and tied for 79th place at 19-over 229 (72-81-76).
At the 2015 Notre Dame Invitational, Utah State finished fourth in the 12-team field with a 9-over 861 (292-284-285). Miller tied for 17th place at 2-over 215 (72-70-73) for his lowest-ever 54-hole score and best-ever collegiate finish at the time.
Utah State began its fall season by finishing 16th out of 19 teams with a 21-over 885 (292-300-293) at the Air Force-hosted Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational from Sept. 8-10. Miller led the Aggies as he tied for 56th place at 5-over 221 (72-74-75). Cordingley tied for 74th place at 8-over 224 (78-76-70). Sophomore Hayden Eckert tied for 79th place at 9-over 225 (77-75-73), and Stanger (76-75-75) and Hess (67-78-81) both tied for 84th place at 10-over 226.
