USU Men's Tennis Falls, 5-2, To BYU In Season Opener Friday
Jan. 12, 2008 PROVO, Utah - Utah State's men's tennis team fell, 5-2, to No. 68 Brigham Young Friday in its season opener. The Aggies won all three doubles matches taking the doubles point and won only one singles match. Sophomore Oscar Ericsson won at No. 2 singles, 6-7, 2-3 (ret.) against BYU's Jonathan Sanchez. USU Freshman Jakob Asplund battled at No. 1 singles to Thomas Shubert, falling, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. In doubles action, Asplund and senior Jonas Tyden teamed up to defeat BYU's Cassidy Mears and Sanchez, 9-8, at No. 1. USU's Ericsson and senior Fernando Gallegos also partnered to beat Evan Urbina and Daniel Hwang, 9-8, at No. 2, while Matt Searle and Mike Banks took down Shubert and Tom Young, 9-8, at No. 3. Utah State continues action at a two day tournament in Boise, Idaho. The Aggies will take on Boise State, Thursday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. and Montana State, Friday, Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. Final Score
