Utah State Men's Tennis Falls To Eastern Washington In First Home Match Of The Season

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's men's tennis team fell, 5-2, in its first home match of the season against Eastern Washington here Saturday. The Aggies are now 0-2 on the season.
USU's two points came from senior Mike Banks and freshman Jordan Barlow in singles action. Banks won at number four singles, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, against EWU's David Pez, and Barlow won at number six singles in a quick, 6-1, 6-1, match against the Eagles Kevin Anderson. At number one singles, sophomore Jakob Asplund battled hard but fell, 7-6, 7-6, to EWU's Kyle Schraeder.
In doubles play, juniors Amit Maharaj and Alex Thatchet notched an 8-5 win for Utah State at the No. 2 spot, but Eastern Washington won the doubles point as Schraeder and Nico Riego de Dios defeated Asplund and sophomore Bryan Marchant, 8-6, and Pez and Anderson posted a 9-8 win against Banks and Barlow at the number three spot.
The Aggies will continue action Monday, Jan. 19, as they play at in-state rival Utah at 11a.m.
