LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's tennis (3-4, 0-0 MW) shook off a disappointing result against Montana State last weekend with a 5-2 win over Seattle on Friday before heading to Salt Lake City to face Utah.

"This is good for the guys," said assistant coach Sven Poslusny. "Mentally, they're back on track. We have a big match tomorrow, so that's good to go into the weekend with a win. Overall, it was tough today, but I think we found a way to fight through it and get the win today, so it feels really good."

The Aggies opened up the match by earning the doubles point. The duo of junior Matt Sweet and freshman Sebastian Schneider knocked off Seattle's team of Will Topp and Zach Kosanke, 6-2, in the second doubles position. Then, the tandem of senior Fredrik Peterson and junior Sean Levesque clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win against Riley Newman and Connor Leahy in the third doubles spot. With the doubles point won, all eyes turned to the showdown at the first doubles position where junior Marcus Fritz and freshman Dennis Baumgartner lost a closely-contested match to Kevin Lynch and Jason Bediones that went all the way to a tie-breaker, 6-5.

Once singles play began, Seattle tied the dual match at 1-1 when Topp defeated Fritz, 6-2, 6-3, in the No. 2 singles spot. But after that, USU rattled off four wins in a row. Baumgartner won another tightly-contested match in the No. 1 singles spot against Lynch, 6-4, 6-5. Then, Peterson defeated Kosanke in the No. 3 singles spot, 6-3, 6-5. Schneider clinched the dual match win with a victory in a three-set battle with Ian Clare, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, in the No. 4 singles spot.

Sweet gave the Aggies another point with a straight-sets win against Newman, 6-4, 6-4, in the fifth singles spot before junior Curran Wearmouth was defeated in a third-set tie-breaker by Leahy, 3-6, 6-1, 10-1, at the No. 6 singles position.

The Aggies are traveling to Salt Lake City for a match this Saturday, Feb. 8, against Utah. First serve is set for 12 p.m. at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center.
