USU Men's Tennis Defeated Portland State, 5-2, Friday
Feb. 15, 2008 LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's tennis defeated Portland State, 5-2, at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club Friday. The Aggies improve to 2-7 on the season while the Vikings fall to 0-5. USU took the doubles point winning at No. 1 and 2. Doubles partners Freshman Jakob Asplund and senior Jonas Tyden teamed to beat PSU's Kyle Ericson and Alex Hart, 8-4, at No. 1, while sophomore Oscar Ericsson and senior Fernando Gallegos took down Portland State's Sean Eberle and Adam Blackner, 8-2, at No. 2. In singles action the Aggies took four of the six points, winning at No. 1, 2, 3 and 5. Senior Jonas Tyden battled hard at No. 4 singles but fell to PSU's Sean Eberle, 6-1, 6-7 (9-11), and 6-4. Gallegos battled at No. 3 singles winning, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, against Portland State's Blackner. Asplund and Ericsson also won their No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Sophomore Matt Searle won his first singles match as an Aggie, defeating Hart at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. The Aggies continue action Saturday, Feb. 23, at home against Nevada at 11 a.m. at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club. Utah State 5, Portland State 2 Singles
