USU Men's Tennis Falls To Weber State Friday, 6-1

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Utah State men's tennis lost to Weber State, 6-1, Friday in Las Vegas, Nev. The Aggies fall to 3-9 on the season while the Wildcats improve to 2-5, with both wins coming against USU. In singles action the Aggies' only point came from freshman Jakob Asplund, who won at No. 1, 7-5, 6-4, against Weber State's Henning Hipp. USU battled to three sets at No. 2, 4 and 5 singles spots, but came up short in all three. Sophomore Oscar Ericsson fell to Weber State's Fabio Mancarella, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2, while senior Jonas Tyden went three sets with Nick Plum but lost, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Also putting up a tough fight for the Aggies was sophomore Matt Searle against WSU's Chirs Williams but lost in three, 5-7, 6-1, 6-0. WSU took the doubles point winning at all three doubles spots. Senior Fernando Gallegos and Ericsson battled at No. 2 doubles, but fell to Weber State's Hipp and Plum, 8-6. This is the second time this season the Aggies have gone head-to-head with the Wildcats, and Utah State has lost both meeetings. USU fell to WSU in Feb., 5-2. The teams are scheduled to compete again on April 9, at Weber State with a time to be announced. The Aggies continue action in Las Vegas when they take on University of Las Vegas, Nevada at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 1. Weber State 6, Utah State 1 SINGLES
