OGDEN, Utah - Utah State's men's tennis team (9-8, 0-1 MW) completed a season sweep of Weber State after a 5-2 win in Ogden on Tuesday afternoon. The score matches the Aggies' 5-2 win in Logan on Feb. 22.

"I'm really proud of our guys for playing three matches in four days, as it shows their toughness and durability," said USU head coach Clancy Shields. "It's always tough to beat a team twice. We played a little nervous in spots today, but found a way to win. We are still not contributing at the No. 2 and No. 6 positions. We will need to fix that in order to be competitive in Mountain West play."

The match began with USU taking the doubles point when the tandem of seniors Fredrik Peterson and Andrew Whiting won their match over James Smith and Todd Fought at the second position. Then, junior Marcus Fritz and freshman Dennis Baumgartner defeated Sanjay Goswami and Oliver Good at the first position to clinch the doubles point for USU. Junior Matt Sweet and freshman Sebastian Schneider narrowly lost their doubles match in the third position, 8-7, to Landon Barlow and Caio Poitena.

In singles, Fritz extended Utah State's lead to 2-0 with a straight-sets win against Poitena, 6-3, 7-5, at the No. 3 spot. However, Weber State would get a point back when Good defeated Peterson at the No. 2 spot, 6-3, 6-2. Baumgartner pushed the lead to 3-1 with a sweep at the No. 1 spot over Fought, 6-3, 6-3.

Weber State's Ryan Garner defeated freshman Tomas Cosmai, 7-6, 6-4, at the No. 6 spot, before Sweet clinched the match for the Aggies with a straight-sets win over Barlow, 6-3, 7-5, at the No. 4 spot. Then, Schneider made the final score 5-2 with a straight-sets win of his own at the No. 5 spot against Goswami, 7-6, 6-3.

The Aggies are back in action against Mountain West rival Boise State on April 5 in Boise, Idaho, as five of USU's final six matches are MW matchups. First serve against the Broncos is scheduled for 10 a.m. (MT).
