Tough Weekend For Utah State Men's Tennis Concludes With 4-0 Loss To Middle Tennessee State On Sunday

BOISE, Idaho - Utah State men's tennis (9-10, 0-2 MW) finished a tough weekend road trip with a 4-0 loss to Middle Tennessee (9-12, 0-0 Conf. USA) on Sunday in a neutral court match at Boise, Idaho. With the loss, the Aggies ended the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 9-8 record, as they get ready for five-straight Mountain West matches.
"Middle Tennessee is a great team," said USU head coach Clancy Shields. "The guys played hard, but at the end of the day we were outmatched. We are going to learn from this weekend. The guys will get better, and we are going to finish the season strong."
The match started in singles play, where Middle Tennessee won four straight to clinch the match. Junior Matt Sweet fell to Aaron Jumonville, 6-4, 6-2, at the No. 4 spot, and senior Andrew Whiting lost to Sam Matheson, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 6 spot. Then, freshman Dennis Baumgartner dropped a match to Ettore Zito, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot, and junior Marcus Fritz fell to Victor Cornea, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 2 spot.
