Utah State Men's Tennis Starts Long Weekend With Conference Win

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's tennis opened a busy weekend with its first Western Athletic Conference win with a 6-1 victory over Seattle University at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club Thursday.
With the win, the Aggies improve to 6-11 overall with a 1-2 WAC record.
Senior Sven Poslusny and sophomore Matt Sweet opened doubles action with an 8-2 win over Seattle's Kevin Lynch and Jason Bediones. Junior Andrew Whiting and sophomore Marcus Fritz followed suit, defeating Zach Kosanke and Ian Clare, 8-5. With the doubles point already secured, junior Fredrik Peterson and sophomore Curran Wearmouth took down Kyle Rapp and Flavio Malaquitti, 8-5, to maintain motivation moving to singles play.
On the singles courts, Poslusny was the only Aggie to go to three sets, eventually coming away with a win over Lynch (6-1, 5-7, 6-2) at the No. 1 position. At the No. 2 spot, Peterson suffered the only loss of the day to Kosanke (7-6, 6-3) while Sweet defeated Clare, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3. The remaining three all took down their opponents in straight-sets with Fritz at the No. 4 position defeating Rapp, (6-2, 6-2), Wearmouth taking down Bediones, (6-1, 6-3) at No. 5 and sophomore Tanner Dance securing a win over Malaquitti (7-6, 7-6) at the No. 6 spot.
The Aggies will be back in action on Saturday, April 11, as they continue the WAC weekend against New Mexico State. The match will begin at 10 a.m., MT.
