Utah State Men's Tennis Finishes Strong Thursday

PROVO, Utah - Utah State's men's tennis team completed the first day of the Utah Fall Tennis Classic Thursday at BYU in Provo, Utah sending three players to the round of 16. Jakob Asplund, Mike Banks and Matt Searle will all be competing in round 16 of the tournament.
Asplund made his way to Friday's action with a win over Stefan Simikic, 6-3, 6-4. He will be facing Evan Urbina. Banks faces Frederick Walsh in Friday's round of 16. Banks took a win over Brandon Nelson, 6-3, 6-2, in the round of 32. Searle faced Kevin Albaugh and Jorge L. Maldonado taking wins over both. He will face Brad Pearce on Friday.
USU's doubles teams also had success at the tournament. Banks and partner, Amit Maharaj will be competing in the quarterfinals of the doubles portion of the tournament against Pearce and Jonathan Sanchez, Friday. They faced Georgy Batrakov and Travis Fillmore on Thursday and won, 8-5.
Bryan Marchant teamed up with Spencer Marchant. They will be competing on Friday in the quarterfinals. Marchant also played in the singles competition, winning in round 64 against Jeremy M. Reid, 6-0,6-1, and taking a loss against Sanchez, 6-3, 6-2 in the second round.
The Aggies will continue action Friday at the Utah Fall Tennis Classic. Asplund, Banks, and Searle will be playing at 10 a.m., while the doubles teams will be in action at 3:30 p.m.
