SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Two Utah State men's tennis players advanced to the second round of individual play at the Utah Invitational on Thursday. Joao Pinho easily defeated Darrel Thomas of Weber State 6-0, 6-0, while Dantley Young defeated Daniel Abeaboeru from Weber State 7-6(5), 7-6(6). The Aggies were 2-7 in singles play for the day.

In a close match in doubles action USU's Brian Ballam teamed with Marek Dvorak of Colorado to beat Zach Levetan and Darrel Thomas of Weber State 9-8(4). Ballam and Dvorak were then beaten by Zach Ganger and Miron Mann of Utah 8-1 in the quarterfinal round. Joao Pinho and Dantley Young also advanced to the quarterfinal round of doubles play by beating Abeaboeru and Jon Bair of Boise State 8-4. Pinho and Young were then beaten by Utes Jason Yap and Tomasz Gryzb 8-4.

In consolation doubles play Aggies Brad Ferguson and Kevin Stanworth advanced to the semifinal round of play.

The tournament includes teams from Utah, Utah State, Colorado, Boise State and Weber State, and will finish on Saturday.
