Asplund Leads Utah State Men's Tennis In Day Two of Utah State Fall Classic Friday

Utah State's Jakob Asplud advances to the semifinal round of singles in day two of the Utah State Fall Invitational Friday. Also doing well for the Aggies is the doubles team of senior Mike Banks and sophomore Bryan Marchant who won in the quarterfinal round, 9-7, against Weber State's Travis Covington and Chris Williams. Banks and Marchant advance to the semifinals Saturday. USU advanced three players to the singles consolation semifinals as Banks defeated the Wildcats' Covington in a hard-fought battle, 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3. Freshman Brandon Nielson also defeated WSU's Matt Thatcher, 6-2, 6-2. The Aggies ended the night in a hard-played match between teammates, freshman Liran Braun and junior Alex Thatcher, with Thatcher wining, 6-4, 6-7(5), 12-10 and advancing to Saturday's consolation semifinal round. The Aggies will continue action in the third and final day of the Utah State Fall Invitational Saturday at the Logan Sports Academy and Racquet Club.
