Nielsen and Peterson Advance to Third Round of Doubles Play at ITA Regionals

LAS VEGAS - Utah State's men's tennis competed in the second day of Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Mountain Regionals Championships on Thursday. They saw action in doubles, singles and consolation brackets.
Sophomore Curran Wearmouth was the only Aggie left on the main bracket for singles play today. He went head to head against Ace Matias of UNLV and was defeated (6-1, 6-2). He then went on to play in singles consolation where he defeated Phillip Hinojosa of Nevada (6-2, 6-1). In the second round of singles consolation, sophomore Matt Sweet defeated Bernard Schoeman of UNLV (6-3, 4-4 inj). Junior Brandon Nielsen went up against Luis Ramirez of New Mexico and was eliminated (6-2, 6-1), and sophomore Tanner Dance lost to Mike Facey of Montana (6-1, 6-2). In doubles play, Nielsen and his partner junior Fredrik Peterson defeated Tamas Batyi and Johannas Markel of UNLV (8-5). Dance and Sweet were taken down by the Rebel's Matias and Schoeman (8-2). Wearmouth and doubles partner freshman Zeno Kastelic advanced to the third round of doubles consolation over Niklas Brandes and Diego Campos of Montana State who withdrew due to injury. The Aggie men will continue play from Vegas in doubles, and both singles and double consolation throughout the weekend.
