Utah State Men's Tennis Competes In Day One Of The 2010 Wilson Intercollegiate Tennis Division I Mountain Regional Wednesday

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Utah State men's tennis began action in the 2010 Wilson Intercollegiate Tennis Division I Mountain Regional held in Las Vegas, Nev., at the Darling Tennis Center. Rain delays pushed back the first round of matches to 11 a.m.
USU advanced three competitors to the singles round of 64. Senior Jakob Asplund defeated Air Force's Lance Wilhelm, 3-6, 7-6, 7-6, in the round of 128 and will compete against UNLV's Kyle Lynch in the round of 64. In the round of 128, junior Lenny Whiting defeated Northern Arizona's Rovin Pezzuto, 6-3, 7-6, while senior Bryan Marchant took the win over UNLV's Rene Ruegamer, 6-4, 6-4, in each of their respective matches. Whiting will face John Smith, while Marchant takes on Montana State's Orlando Superlano, on Thursday in the round of 64. Senior Nikita Ryaschenko's singles match against Montana State's Pawel Turzanski was not finished as of release time.
In doubles action, Utah State advances two doubles duos. In the round of 64, Asplund and Ryashchenko defeated Utah's Garret LaBarre and Benito Surriano, 8-4, and will compete against Northern Arizona's Bruno Ferreira and Hugo Ramadier in the round of 32 on Thursday. Marchant and sophomore Sven Poslusny also advance to the round of 32 after defeating Montana State's Kenny Dodd and Lander Jewett, 8-6. Marchant and Poslusny will play Montana's David Cysneiros and Carl Kuschke at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Marchant and Poslusny lead the Aggies in doubles action with an impressive 7-1 record.
The 2010 Wilson Intercollegiate Tennis Division I Mountain Regional continues through Saturday, Oct. 23 between 120 collegiate competitors.
