Utah State Men's Tennis Gets Ready For Pair Of Mountain West Road Matches

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's tennis (9-11, 0-3 MW) has two chances to earn its first Mountain West win with a pair of road matches this weekend at No. 68 New Mexico (16-7, 1-2 MW) on Friday, April 11 at 1 p.m. (MT) and at Air Force (12-8, 0-3 MW) on Sunday, April 13 at 11 a.m. (MT).
Utah State is led in wins this spring by a pair of freshmen, as Dennis Baumgartner has 10 wins exclusively at the No. 1 spot, and Sebastian Schneider has 10 wins in multiple spots. This is the first time the Aggies have had multiple players with double-digit wins in the spring portion of the season since 2010-11.
In doubles, USU has two tandems with seven wins, as Baumgartner teams with junior Marcus Fritz, and Schneider pairs with junior Matt Sweet. Schneider and Sweet won their doubles match against Nevada on April 9 to tie Baumgartner and Fritz for the team lead.
New Mexico is coming off a loss to conference foe UNLV on April 6. The Lobos have five players with double-digit wins this spring, including James Hignett and Hayden Sabatka with 15, Jauregui Rodolfo with 14 and Samir Iftikhar with 11 wins at the No. 1 spot exclusively. In doubles, Iftikhar and Hignett are tied with Sabatka and Andy Van Der Vyver for the team lead with five wins this spring.
Air Force is in the middle of a six-match losing streak, most recently falling 7-0 to Fresno State in a MW match. The Falcons look to Alex Grubbs as the wins leader with 13 this spring playing mostly at the No. 4 spot. Jack McCullers has nine wins playing in the top half of the singles rotation. In doubles, Grubbs and McCullers lead the team with 14 wins.
