LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men’s tennis will kick off its fall tournament schedule Friday, as four Aggies will travel to Midland, Texas, to compete in the Midland Invitational.

Seniors Jaime Barajas and Andrew Nakajima, junior Samuel Serrano and sophomore Sergiu Bucur will compete in the tournament. The invitational will be Friday through Sunday.

“It’s exciting to get the year started and begin competing. I have been pleased thus far with our team’s energy in practice and conditioning, and I think this will be a good first test for these four guys,” said head coach James Wilson. “The Midland Invite is a very well-run tournament with great competition, so it should be a lot of fun.”

This will be the Aggies second appearance in Midland and will join other schools such as Texas Tech, TCU and Texas.

Utah State returns after back-to-back MW regular season titles and the first Mountain West post-season championship in school history. The team finished with the most wins in team history with a 23-9 record, including 6-1 in conference play. The Aggies also competed in the first NCAA tournament as a unit, losing 4-2 to No. 21 Northwestern.

USU returns four letterwinners in Barajas and Nakajima, Serrano and Bucur. Barajas is four wins away from having the most singles victories in school history. Also returning to the roster is junior Austin Bass, and the Aggie team will be joined by four newcomers in Felipe Acosta, Jose Fernando Carvajal, Valdemar Holm and Aditya Vashistha.
