Aird Records Double-Double To Lead USU To Win Against CS Northridge

LOGAN, Utah - Ali Aird recorded a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds and added four blocked shots to lead Utah State to a 61-57 victory against Cal State Northridge in Big West women's basketball action here Saturday night.
With the win USU improved to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in the Big West, while Cal State Northridge fell to 7-6 and 3-3.
Aird scored 12 of her 16 points in the second half. She was helped by teammate Taylor Richards, who scored all of her 14 points in the second half as well. CSUN was led by Ofa Tulikihihifo, who had 17 points and 10 rebounds. LaJoyce King added 14 points and Krisztina Fuleki added 12 for the visitors.
Aird and Richards combined to score all of USU's final 13 points as the Aggies pulled away for the closely contested win. CS Northridge took a 27-25 advantage at halftime, before a 16-7 run gave USU a 44-36 advantage with 10:19 left in the game.
CS Northridge fought back to tie the game at 50 with 3:39 remaining and the teams remained tied at 54 with 2:24 left. However, Richards hit her only three-pointer of the game and then Aird added a free throw followed by three Richards' free throws to give USU the win.
The Matadors trailed 59-57 with 11 seconds remaining, but an offensive foul on Jamie Mcaa while setting a screen turned the ball over to USU and Richards sank both of her free throws to seal the USU victory.
USU shot just 36.1 percent for the game, but made 48 percent of its attempts in the second half. Cal State Northridge shot 41.5 percent from the field, but committed 23 turnovers to USU's 15.
Utah State will hit the road this week with a pair of games at Cal State Fullerton on Thursday and at UC Riverside on Saturday.
