Women's Hoops Drops Game To UC Riverside

LOGAN, Utah - Four players scored in double-figures as UC-Riverside rolled to an 89-62 victory against Utah State in women's basketball action here on Saturday. The Highlanders improved to 4-12 overall and 3-4 in league play, while USU fell to 2-13 and 2-5.
UCR's Crystal Harris led all scorers with 29 points on 11 of 19 shooting, while adding five rebounds in just 28 minutes of play. Harris notched 21 points in the first-half before getting into foul trouble and having to come out of the game. Casandra Reeves scored 19 points on nine of 19 shooting as UCR shot 43.3 percent from the field.
UCR also hit 24 of 28 free throws in the game, while giving up just 10 turnovers to the Aggies' 25.
USU's Ali Aird fell just two rebounds shy of her fourth-consecutive double-double as she scored 26 points and snared eight rebounds. Her 26 points equal's the season-high she first tallied against Northern Colorado on Dec. 13.
Christina Zdenek, who entered the game as USU's second-leading scorer at 12. 4 points per contest, did not make a shot from the field and scored just four points, going four of four from the free-throw line.
"We came out exactly like we have the last two games. We were flat," said head coach Raegan Pebley. "Defensively we were a little better at the beginning of the game, but we were unable to maintain that intensity for the entire 40 minutes."
USU opened the game with a 6-2 lead, but after the Highlanders went on a 25-7 run, the Aggies never led again. The Highlanders led 41-25 at halftime and pushed the margin to as many as 32 in the late stages of the contest.
The Aggies go back on the road next week, travelling to UC Irvine on Thurs., Jan. 29 and Long Beach State on Sat., Jan. 31. Both games are slated to begin at 8 p.m. (MST)
