Aggie Women's Basketball Tunes Up For Season With Impressive Blue-White Scrimmage Thursday
Freshman guard Makenlee Williams was one of three players with 14 points Thursday night in USU's Blue-White Scrimmage. Senior guard Devyn Christensen led all scorers with 38 points, while fellow senior guards Jenna Johnson and Cristal Turner, along with Williams, all tallied 14 points apiece. LOGAN, Utah - In its final tune-up before the 2012-13 season officially begins, Utah State women's basketball had a solid Blue-White Scrimmage Thursday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. New Aggie head coach Jerry Finkbeiner and his staff split the squad up for two 20-minute halves of play.

Senior guard Devyn Christensen netted a combined 38 points in the two halves. Christensen was 6-of-14 from three-point range, hitting 4-of-8 as part of her 23 points in the first frame.

Fellow senior guards Jenna Johnson and Cristal Turner, along with freshman guard Makenlee Williams, all tallied 14 points apiece. Sophomore forward Franny Vaaulu and freshman guard Stephanie Bairstow added 10 points apiece.

Vaaulu snared eight rebounds, which were matched by sophomore guard Elise Nelson, while Johnson and freshman forward Haylee Thompson each pulled down seven boards. Thompson also had a game-high two blocked shots.

Turner and Johnson each drained four three-pointers, while Bairstow and senior guard Pualei Furtado tallied two each, as USU shot a combined 28-of-81 (34.6 percent) behind the arc.

Junior guard Jennifer Schlott dished out six assists on the night, while Nelson tallied five helpers. Schlott and Vaaulu also swiped three steals apiece.

Utah State will officially open the Finkbeiner era and the 2012-13 regular season when the Aggies take on the Wolverines of Utah Valley University in Orem, on Monday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed online at http://www.uvu.edu/uvutv, and will also be aired on the radio on 1390 AM in Cache Valley, as well as online by clicking on the "listen live" link at www.UtahStateAggies.com.
