LOGAN, Utah - - Utah State women's basketball snapped a season-high, five-game losing streak with a 75-69 road win over New Mexico on Jan. 29. The Aggies return home for a brief one-game homestand against border-foe Wyoming on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum at 7 p.m.
Utah State will open the month of February against the Cowgirls in the first of four home games in February.
Overall, Utah State is 9-10 overall and 3-5 in Mountain West action. Wyoming is 13-5 this season with a 4-3 conference record. The Cowgirls upset Fresno State, 87-76, in Laramie on Wednesday.
Wyoming holds an overall 14-5 series lead over Utah State. This will be the 20th meeting between the Aggies and the Cowgirls. USU captured the last meeting between the teams when the Aggies stopped the Cowgirls, 62-56, in Laramie to open the 2011-12 season. Prior to that, it was Wyoming that defeated Utah State in Logan, 80-50, in 2010.
The Cowgirls have won all four of its Mountain West home games, but are 0-3 in league games on the road.
Wyoming is led by Kayla Woodward who is third in the conference in scoring, averaging 17.2 points per game. She is also third in conference games only with 17.4 ppg. Woodward is tied for third in the MW in 20-point games with six. Fallon Lewis is second on the team in scoring, averaging 15.0 ppg, while Kaitlyn Mileto is third bringing down 14.3 ppg
Wyoming is first in the league in scoring margin, winning its games by 8.3 ppg. The Cowgirls are third in assists (15.5 apg) just behind Utah State and Colorado State.
Utah State hopes that a return home to the friendly confines of the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum will do some good. The Aggies started off hot when playing at home with a 4-1 non-conference record when sleeping in their own beds. Mountain West action has been a little different with USU owning a 1-3 record at home. The Aggies still have five home game left during Mountain West action.
