LOGAN, Utah - Utah State senior guard Devyn Christensen was named America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 3.
This was her second honor of the season and third of her career after being honored during the 2010-11 season.
Christensen (Caldwell, Idaho) led Utah State to a 2-0 home record last weekend with wins against Idaho (81-50) and Seattle (67-62). Against the Vandals, Christensen scored 13 points shooting 50.0 percent from the field (4-8) and from beyond the arc (2-4). She added two steals, two rebounds and an assist in the win. Against the Redhawks, Christensen scored a game-high 28 points, shooting 38.9 percent from the field (7-18) and 46.2 percent from three (6-13). She added four steals, one block and one rebound. For the week, Christensen averaged 20.5 points, 3.0 steals, 1.5 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game, while shooting 42.3 percent from the field (11-26), 47.1 percent from three-point range (8-17) and was a perfect 11-for-11 at the free throw line.
Christensen is now just nine points away from breaking the Utah State scoring record. She now has 1,345 career points just eight points behind Jerrie McGahan (1977-80) who had 1,353 points as an Aggie.
In its only game of the week, Utah State will host San Jose State (9-13, 6-5 WAC) on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. in the team's annual "Play4Kay" game promoting breast cancer awareness. The Aggies (12-10, 9-2 WAC) are in the midst of a six-game winning streak. USU's last loss came against the Spartans on Jan. 12, 103-80, in San Jose. Utah State is currently atop the Western Athletic Conference standings with its 9-2 record.

OTHER UTAH STATE NOMINEES MEN'S BASKETBALL - Junior center Jarred Shaw (Dallas, Texas) lead Utah State to a 2-0 record this past weekend with a pair of road wins at Idaho (77-67) and at Seattle (68-46). Against the Vandals, Shaw scored a career-high 27 points as he was 12-of-15 (.800) from the field and 3-for-3 at the free throw line. He also had nine rebounds, one blocked shot, one steal and one assist in the game. Against the Redhawks, Shaw scored a game-high 16 points on 8-of-11 (.727) shooting, to go along with seven rebounds and one blocked shot. For the week, Shaw averaged 21.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocked shots, while shooting 76.9 percent from the field (20-26) and was 3-for-3 at the free throw line.
GYMNASTICS - Sophomore Sarah Landes (Edmond, Okla.) won the all-around competition for the second week in a row with a season-high 39.200 in Utah State's 195.425-194.200 loss at Southern Utah. Landes tied for first with a 9.825 on beam, was part of a four-way tie for second with a 9.825 on floor, tied for third on bars with a season-best 9.825, and finished sixth on vault with a 9.725.
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD - Sophomore Nic Bowens (Meridian, Idaho) placed second in both the 60m and 200m races with personal-best times of 6.80 and 21.45, respectively, at the Boise State hosted Bronco Classic this past weekend. With the times, Bowens moves up into a tie for sixth-place in the 60m in school history, while sitting alone in sixth-place in school history in the 200m. Furthermore, Bowens ranks second in the WAC and 53rd nationally in the 200m and third in the WAC and 65th nationally in the 60m.
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD - Sophomore Jodi Williams (Enterprise, Utah) won her second-straight high jump event as she cleared a personal-best 1.75m (5-08.75) at the Boise State hosted Bronco Classic this past weekend. Williams enters a four-way tie for third-place for the high jump in school history with the mark, while also ranking second in the WAC and 52nd in the nation this season.
