Women's Basketball's Christensen Named America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State senior guard Devyn Christensen was named America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 10. This was her second-straight honor. The senior has been honored three times this season and four times during her career after being honored once during the 2010-11 season. Christensen (Caldwell, Idaho) helped Utah State to an 87-54 home win against San Jose State in its only game last weekend. Against the Spartans, Christensen scored 17 points to become USU's all-time leading scorer with 1,362 career points. She also had five assists, four rebounds and four steals in the game. Overall, Christensen was 6-of-19 (.316) from the field and 5-of-11 (.455) from three-point range in the game. Christensen passed Jerrie McGahan (1977-80) who had 1,353 points as an Aggie. She also helped Utah State win its seventh-straight game, improving to 13-10 overall and 10-2 in Western Athletic Conference play. This week, the Aggies hit the trail for a pair of road games. Utah State will take on Denver (11-13, 6-7 WAC) in a Valentine's Day matchup on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. The Aggies then travel to Las Cruces to face New Mexico State (9-14, 3-10 WAC) on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. USU defeated both the Pioneers and the Aggies in Logan earlier this season. GYMNASTICS - Freshman Kinzey Martinez (Kimberly, Idaho) helped Utah State to its second victory of the season as it defeated Air Force, 193.575-193.200, in a home dual last weekend. Against the Falcons, Martinez earned her third consecutive event win as she claimed the bars title with a 9.775, along with tying for third on vault (9.800). SOFTBALL - Junior infielder Kassandra Uchida (Burbank, Calif.) hit .500 (5-10) this past weekend at the Southern Utah hosted Red Desert Classic as Utah State opened the season with losses to No. 6 Tennessee (10-0), Colorado State (4-3), Loyola Marymount (3-0), Southern Utah (4-1) and South Dakota (5-4). Uchida's best game of the tournament was against SUU as she was 2-for-3 at the plate to go along with a walk and scored the team's only run. Along with her team-leading five hits, Uchida also drew four walks during the tournament and finished with a .643 on-base percentage. MEN'S TENNIS - Senior Sven Poslusny (Lorrach, Germany) posted a 2-1 singles record and a 2-1 doubles record last week in helping Utah State to wins against Weber State (4-3) and Montana State (5-2), while losing at Utah (6-1). Against the Wildcats, Poslusny posted a straight sets win at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-2) and teamed with sophomore partner Marcus Fritz for an 8-6 win at the first doubles position. Against the Bobcats, Poslusny notched a straight sets win at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-1) and teamed with Fritz for an 8-3 win at the first doubles position. And against the Utes, Poslusny lost in straight sets at No. 1 singles (6-4, 6-3) and lost his doubles match with Fritz, 8-1. MEN'S TRACK - Sophomore Nic Bowens (Meridian, Idaho) ran the second-fastest time in school history to claim fourth-place in the men's 200m (21.35) at the New Mexico hosted Don Kirby Elite Invitational this past weekend. Bowens also finished fifth in the men's 60m dash (6.78), which is tied for the fifth-fastest time in school history in the event. WOMEN'S TRACK - Freshman Tylee Newman (Monteview, Idaho) led Utah State at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., this past weekend by winning her heat in the women's mile race and placing second overall with the third-fastest time in school history (4:47.97).
