LAS VEGAS, Nev. - After a brief one-game homestand, it is back on the road for the Utah State women's basketball game. The Aggies travel to Las Vegas to take on UNLV on Saturday, Feb. 15. Tip off time is set for 5 p.m. (MT) at Cox Pavilion, which is the home of the Lady Rebels.
The Aggies are in the midst of a three-game losing streak. It is the second-longest losing streak of the year for Utah State after dropping five-straight earlier in the season.
Overall, Utah State is 10-13 overall and 4-8 in Mountain West action. UNLV is currently 9-14 over all and 6-5 in league play. Like the Aggies, the Lady Rebels are in the middle of a three-game losing streak with losses to Colorado State, Boise State and Wyoming.
UNLV holds a dominating 15-2 series lead over Utah State, including a close 73-67 win in Logan on Jan. 22. In that game, Jennifer Schlott led the way with 24 points, while Franny Vaaulu added 17 points. The Lady Rebels were led by 14 points from Alana Cesarz, who was one of four Lady Rebels' who scored in double figures. Prior to the meeting in January, the Aggies won the last meeting in Logan on Jan. 2, 2010 when USU captured a 78-70 victory. USU's other win against UNLV came in its first meeting in 1974 when the Aggies stopped the Lady Rebels, 70-63.
Like Utah State, UNLV has three players who average in double figures. Cesarz is eighth in the MW in scoring, averaging 13.6 ppg, while Danielle Miller is 14th in scoring with 12.3 ppg. Mia Bell is 19th in scoring with 11.2 ppg. Aley Rohde is fourth in the MW in rebounding, averaging 7.4 rpg.
Junior guard Elise Nelson has had a breakout season on the offensive and defensive end of the court. With 105 assists this season, almost doubles her career assist total of 57. Her 105 assists is second on the team behind Jennifer Schlott's 138 and is ninth on the single-season list. Nelson's 61 steals this season are also more than the 50 her first two seasons combined.
